Kingston can be a real climate leader. Together, we can make it happen.

The Kingston Climate Justice Coalition is a network of local organizations working to make sure that City Council acts on the climate crisis.

We’re closely watching the development of the Kingston’s new Official Plan and we’re sounding the alarm because the City is rushing a crucial decision about urban sprawl. Learn more and take action below.

Speak Out Against Reckless Urban Sprawl

Kingston is at a crossroads. Decisions made today about our Urban Boundary will lock us into how we grow, move, and spend tax dollars until 2051. But right now, City Council is being asked to vote on large urban growth boundary expansions before the homework is finished.

Council is being asked to sign a “blank cheque”. Critical reports on the long-term cost of new sewer, water, and electrical infrastructure construction, the capacity of our roads, the increased transportation costs, and the economic and environmental impact on our disappearing wetlands and forests haven’t been completed or made public yet. Proceeding without this data isn’t just bad planning—it’s a financial and environmental risk to every Kingston resident.

Sign this petition to demand that data comes before decisions. Tell Mayor Paterson and Council: No expansion decisions until the full fiscal and environmental costs are presented to and voted on by council.

Kingston’s Climate Report Card

We worked with non-profit organizations and independent experts to analyze the City of Kingston’s track record of action and inaction on the climate crisis.

This report card summarizes what we learned: where Kingston is making progress, and where it is falling short of its own commitments and the scientific consensus on action.

“Cities don’t have to be victims of climate change. They can become the crucibles that forge resilience against it.”

Matt Simon
